Rangers well aware of Lyall Cameron in new transfer developments at Ibrox

Rangers are “well aware” of Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron’s impending availability to sign a pre-contract, Stevie Clifford has said.

Four Lads Had A Dream posted on X (7 January), with Clifford stating he was “positive” that Gers are aware of Cameron at Dens Park, where Philippe Clement’s men travel for their next league game.

The 22-year-old has scored eight goals in 27 appearances already for the Dees this season, with five in the Premiership, but is out of contract this summer amid previous interest from the two Old Firm clubs.

Clifford replied after being quizzed: “I’m positive they are well aware of Lyall Cameron.

Lyall Cameron transfer could be massive success for Rangers

As both Old Firm clubs have strived for success over the years and looked to bring big-money transfers into Glasgow, the Scottish contingent in both starting line-ups has decreased significantly.

However, with the Light Blues currently not on the same financial playing field as their arch-rivals, they are somewhat forced into looking closer to home for cut-price deals and even free transfers on occasion.

The signing of Connor Barron following the end of his Aberdeen contract has proven to be a shrewd acquisition, with the 22-year-old a mainstay in Clement’s midfield for much of this season.

Adding Cameron to the mix this summer for free – aside from any tribunal-related fees – could also end up being a long-term success, adding a goal threat which Barron has rarely threatened to do so far.

The player trading model at Ibrox is starting to bear fruit given the interest in Hamza Igamane this month, and Cameron is exactly the kind of player Gers should be looking to turn into one of their prized assets.

In other Rangers news, the Bears are already looking at ways to bolster their defensive line amid a spate of injuries this month.
