Niko Katic transfer: Agent talks begin over desperate Rangers move
Niko Katic would favour a move to Rangers during the transfer window as his agent begins talks, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper reported online (7 January) that the now Zurich defender’s agent has begun conversations surrounding his future with a return to Rangers preferable.
With Philippe Clement’s job at Rangers in the balance, additions to his squad will be essential during the window to help his side push in the second half of the season.
The Record said in their own headline covering the story that Katic is “desperate” for a Rangers return.
According to the Record, a source close to the player’s representatives said: “We’ve had nothing concrete yet but we’ve seen some stories in the media and of course, Niko would like it a lot if he could return to Rangers.
“We are currently in negotiations with some clubs, one also from England. But if Rangers knock on the door, that would be the priority for Nikola. He still has 18 months remaining on his contract in Zurich. But If it is meant for him to return to Rangers, he will be there.”
Rangers return on the cards for Niko Katic?
With the January transfer window underway, Clement will already be looking at targets for the Gers for the month although the 28-year-old may have got his own name on the list.
The defender’s period in Glasgow came to a tough end after suffering from a serious ACL injury, which led the club allowing him to leave.
However, Katic is seemingly once again on the Gers’ radar and has made 18 appearances in the Swiss Super League this season.
There seems to be no doubt that the former Light Blues man is very keen on returning to Ibrox and finishing what he started and it could be an appropriate transfer.
The Gers are very short of options in defence with injuries keeping the likes of James Tavernier and John Souttar on the sidelines meaning Clement will certainly need defensive reinforcements.
As someone who knows the club and what it means to be a Rangers player in a more successful period too, Katic could be exactly what the Gers need to solve multiple problems at Ibrox.
