Hamza Igamane the jewel in Rangers crown amid ‘Incredible’ thing he’s done

Hamza Igamane has been called a “maverick” by BBC Scotland journalist Jonathan Sutherland after his hat-trick for Rangers in their 3-3 draw against Hibernian on Sunday (5 January).

The Gers left Easter Park with just one point to their name despite the striker’s impressive performance and increased their gap to Celtic from 11 points to 13.

Igamane has been one of the Gers’ few bright sparks this term since being given an extended run in the team and Sutherland believes he deserves all the plaudits he’s been getting after an “incredible” transformation at Ibrox.

“Hamza Igamane has gone from project player to jewel in the crown at Rangers in double quick time,” he wrote in his Team of the Week column for BBC Sport (6 January).

“The 22-year-old was outstanding as he scored the perfect hat-trick at Easter Road. From a player who looked decidedly raw not that long ago, the speed of transformation has been quite incredible.

“Strong, fast, with an eye for goal and a maverick edge, which makes him very difficult for opponents to deal with.

“Came so close to scoring the winner against Hibs with what would have been an incredible fourth.”

Rangers can’t afford to lose Hamza Igamane in January

Although nothing concrete has yet emerged regarding the future of the Morocco youth international, there have already been several teams linked with making a move for the former AS Far Man in January.

Premier League sides such as Everton have been linked with an interest and could well look towards bringing in a striker during the winter window to try and move their way out of the relegation battle.

Philippe Clement’s job has been hanging on a thin thread for a while now and without the 22-year-old among his ranks, it feels like he would have been long gone ages ago.

The Belgian has an awful lot to thank the youngster for because, without him, things would have almost certainly gone pear-shaped at a much faster rate.

However, if a club does come in for the striker during the January window, the Gers have to do everything in their power to keep hold of him if they want to earn anything from this season.

Because, without him leading their line, it feels like they’d be almost hopeless.
