Nils Koppen masterstroke will bank Rangers millions, Celtic will be nervous

Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen have copped for their fair share of flak at Rangers this season.

At times, most of it has been entirely justified as well with the Gers mixing some genuinely excellent moments, like the 3-0 win over Celtic, with some truly abysmal periods.

What is particularly frustrating is that the Old Firm triumph was followed by Sunday’s (5 January) 3-3 draw with Hibernian at Easter Road, especially when you consider the Celtic win was preceded by a couple of Christmas horror shows.

There was the dreadful 2-1 setback at St Mirren and the incident-packed 2-2 draw at Motherwell, in which Clement came in for criticism for a plethora of changes to the XI.

But one decision taken last summer is now increasingly starting to look like a Koppen masterstroke and one that could end up banking Rangers millions and leaving Celtic nervous.

Nils Koppen to bank Rangers millions with Hamza Igamane transfer

The Gers forked out £1.7million to ASFAR Rabat to sign Hamza Igamane transfer and, after an initial slow bedding in period, the forward is starting to look an absolute talent.

The Morocco forward, 22, fired a “perfect” hat-trick at Easter Road in another fantastic display in a Gers shirt and he now has six Scottish Premiership goals and 11 in all competitions for the campaign.

Having already been linked with a move to Premier League outfit Everton (TBR Football), you can’t help but feel that the Gers are in a fantastic position to bank a healthy profit on the exciting forward.

It is a strategy the Light Blues have been needing to implement for a long time, buy low, sell high, become sustainable, keeping finding the next talent.

The time to sell isn’t just yet, if they can keep developing Igamane then he can be a talent to really help bridge the sizeable gap to Celtic.

Then, when the time is right, they could cash in and use what should be a substantial profit to improve the sum of all the Rangers parts.

And that is what should really get the nerves jangling at Celtic Park. A few more successes like this are still needed but, fair play, this is one gamble that looks like it will have a fantastic pay off.
