Diomande ‘reckless’ as footage of Hibs v Rangers incident shown on Sky Sports
Keith Hackett believes Rangers midfielder Mohamed Diomande should have seen a yellow card for a challenge deemed as “reckless” by the ex-PGMOL chief.
Rangers were pegged back by Hibernian with Philippe Clement’s side having to settle for a point in a 3-3 draw at Easter Road on Sunday.
Diomande earned his plaudits for his performance in midfield but a late challenge on Nicky Cadden in the first half saw the Gers star let off with a warning with Hackett surprised he wasn’t cautioned after the footage was shown on Sky Sports Football.
“This challenge was reckless and warranted a yellow card,” said Hackett to Ibrox News.
“The referee was well positioned to correctly award a free kick to Hibernian.
“It was a careless challenge by Diomande, who failed to make an attempt to win the ball.
“What I notice is that on many occasions we see a review by VAR on a potential red card challenge. They then after review determine that it is not a serious foul play challenge worthy of red.
“However because VAR can only review a red card offence, on almost every occasion after the review and no red card, there is then a gap where because yellow cards are not reviewable by VAR they fail to issue a yellow card for these acts.
“Reckless challenge.”
Rangers frailties on show again v Hibernian
The first half showing from Clement’s side was actually impressive for a large part with Hamza Igamane on fire for Rangers in front of goal but things turned very quickly for the visitors.
Hibernian came from behind twice to secure a point on 5 January with a complete lack of game management on show from the Gers which has been a theme of the season.

Quiet frankly, a lack of experience again played its part on Sunday afternoon with Rangers appearing to crumble under the atmosphere at Easter Road after Hibs were able to get themselves back into the game and that needs to be addressed urgently.
Having been 2-0 up in the game, Rangers will be kicking themselves to have only come away with a point.
