Vaclav Cerny lauded as Rangers trio named in Team of the Week
Vaclav Cerny has been dubbed a “menace” by Jonathan Sutherland after he named a Rangers trio in his team of the week following their 3-0 win over Celtic on Thursday.
The Gers managed to cut down their 14-point deficit on the Bhoys down to 11 in the Scottish Premiership table.
Both Ianis Hagi and Ridvan Yilmaz were also lauded by the BBC Scotland journalist after what they did against Brendan Rodgers’ men earlier in the week.
“Ridvan Yilmaz: Was deployed out of position at right-back in the Old Firm derby triumph and played an absolute blinder,” he wrote via the BBC Sport website (3 January).
“Ianis Hagi: His quality shone through at Ibrox. Opened the scoring with a pinpoint swerving shot and made quality decisions throughout. Wonder what his watching father made of it?
“Vaclav Cerny: The Czech winger was a constant menace to the Celtic backline. Unlucky not to score as he rattled the woodwork twice.”
Rangers need to use victory against Celtic as turning point
There have been times when Rangers have impressed their fans this season, and others when they’ve done far from that.
Prior to their surprising 3-0 win over Celtic on 2 January, the Gers had dropped points to the likes of St Mirren and Motherwell, which made it feel like their title chances were completely out of the window.
And, although an 11-point gap is still a steep hill for the Gers to climb, the fact that they managed to put in a performance of that calibre against their arch-rivals shows that they have plenty of quality within their ranks to mount a title challenge.
At the moment, the title still feels like it’s miles away, but if Brendan Rodgers’ men slip-up again and Rangers manage to keep their performances to this sort of level, by the time the end of the season comes around, they could be well within the race.
Of course, only time will tell whether this will happen or not but at the moment, it feels like some of the pressure upon Clement’s shoulders has been relieved.
