Ryan Kent claim emerges as Rangers eye new free transfer

Tam McManus believes that Philippe Clement can gauge Ryan Kent in training and then decide if Rangers should sign him.

BBO Sports reported on 2 January that Gers are considering bringing the 28-year-old back to Ibrox in January.

As he’s no longer under contract at Fenerbahce he’s available on a free transfer and can begin training with the Gers first team right away.

McManus told PLZ Soccer on 3 January at 25:22: “Kent, I think, Rangers fans are split with that one. He was brilliant to stop 10 the row under Steven Gerard and European performances have been superb.

“But towards the latter end of it, he went off the boil and left on a free.

“I don’t think there’s any harm in Rangers getting him in, having a look at him in training or whatever and Philippe Clement makes his mind up. They’ll be getting him for nothing so we’ll have to wait and see.”

Rangers need to be 100 per cent sure with Ryan Kent

If Gers think that Kent is not going to be a first-team regular, then there’s no point in signing him.

It also signals that the club have no plan for the future and are going back to players that left them on a free transfer.

Fans certainly will remember the last few months of his Ibrox career when he did not seem to put in a shift.

That attitude is not something that they’d want at the club and Clement will need to gauge the situation carefully before giving the green signal to sign him.

There are better options out there and it might be argued that the ones already at Ibrox are better than Kent.

This seems to be one that’s highly unlikely and it will be a major surprise if it goes ahead.

In other Rangers news, the club want to sign a midfielder valued at around £650k in the January transfer window.
