Rangers told to sell Ianis Hagi despite starring role in Celtic rout

Rangers should consider selling Ianis Hagi in the January transfer window if there’s interest in him, according to Mark Guidi.

The renowned journalist wants to see the Gers cash in on the Romanian while his stock is high and other teams are lurking.

Guidi has been disappointed with the Light Blues’ business model in recent years and wants to see them sell players at the right time.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show [2 January], the Scotsman said: “Guys like Hagi and others, if there’s interest in them, as Clement said there was… if Rangers can go and generate funds for these guys, it would be a blow for the manager; he’ll lose them, but the business model has to be you sell when the player is hot.

“And they haven’t been good at that over the years. They’ve been wasteful. They’ve been mismanaged in the transfer market. And now is the time to put that right.”

Rangers can’t sell Ianis Hagi in the upcoming transfer windows

Hagi has come through thick and thin to establish himself in the Bears’ team once again this season.

After struggling with injury issues, the Romania international found himself out of the squad and was sent out on loan.

At the start of the current campaign, Philippe Clement didn’t fancy the 26-year-old as he played for the B team at Auchenhowie.

Rangers had a tough start to the season but have found their feet in recent weeks, and Hagi’s re-emergence in the starting lineup has been one of the reasons for the turn in form.

The Light Blues finally got the better of Celtic and won their first Old Firm derby after seven attempts with a 3-0 victory at Ibrox.

Clement started the 26-year-old playmaker on Thursday (2 January), and he opened the scoring in the seventh minute, with Robin Propper and Danilo also getting on the scoresheet.

The attacking midfielder’s resurgence has come at the right time for the Bears as they look to compete for the Europa League and Scottish Cup.

While the Gers are seemingly out of the title race, Hagi can still be pivotal in the other competitions, making his potential sale baffling.
