Rangers to cash in on Cyriel Dessers as Ibrox interest emerges

Rangers are ready to cash in on Cyriel Dessers in the January transfer window, according to Joshua Barrie.

The Rangers Review journalist shared that the centre-forward is attracting interest away from the Light Blues.

Barrie expects the Gers to sell the Nigerian if a bid arrives and reinvest that money elsewhere.

Speaking on The Rangers Review podcast [3 January], Barrie said: “Dessers is the third-choice striker.

“There has been interest in him. There was interest in him in the summer. Rangers are now in a position where if a bid came in, they would be able to sell Dessers and try to reinvest that money.”

Cyriel Dessers transfer a no-brainer for Rangers

Dessers has been a regular for the Gers over the past couple of seasons, making 84 appearances in all competitions [Tranfermarkt], but has fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks.

Philippe Clement heavily relied on the 30-year-old at the start of the season as the Light Blues struggled to keep pace with Celtic.

The Nigeria international frustrates many due to his profligacy and seeming lack of certainty in front of goal.

Rangers have found a new hero in Hamza Igamane after some brilliant performances over the last few games.

The Moroccan has become the first-choice striker at the Gers, starting up top in the 3-0 win over the Hoops on Thursday (2 January).

Danilo has also returned from injury and has been chipping in with goals off the bench.

Dessers has started just once in the last seven Scottish Premiership matches, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave in the winter window.

The Light Blues could do with getting the 30-year-old’s wages off their books and reinforce a different department in the coming days and weeks.
