Ryan Kent transfer: Rangers make January decision amid Ibrox admiration

Rangers are not pursuing a deal for Ryan Kent in the January transfer window, according to The Rangers Review.

Joshua Barrie reported for the news outlet [3 January] that the 28-year-old isn’t close to an Ibrox return after leaving Fenerbahce.

Kent has been linked with a move back to the Light Blues after his contract at the Turkish outfit was terminated last year [BBO Sports, 2 January].

The Englishman spent five seasons at the Glaswegian outfit in the past and retains admirers in the boardroom, but the Bears have targeted younger profiles since Nils Koppen’s arrival.

Ryan Kent deserves second chance with Rangers transfer

The 28-year-old had established himself as a key player at the Gers before leaving at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

At the Light Blues, the forward primarily played on the left wing, scoring 33 goals and providing 56 assists in 218 appearances in all competitions.

As things stand, the Bears have relied on Nedim Bajrami and Vaclav Cerny to provide creativity out wide in the attack.

Rangers have relied on the Czech forward in recent weeks to make an impact and contribute up top, but he’s only on loan from Wolfsburg.

Ianis Hagi has also re-emerged onto the scene at Ibrox after being left out of the squad at the start of the season.

Oscar Cortes and Rabbi Matondo are also at Philippe Clement’s disposal, but they have been on the sidelines for most of the campaign.

The Gers showed they can compete with the best after beating Celtic 3-0 on Thursday (2 January).

While winning the Scottish Premiership is unrealistic, the Glaswegian outfit can still go all the way in the Europa League and the Scottish Cup, and Kent could boost those prospects.
