McCoist names one Rangers regret in Old Firm win amid ‘Amazing’ Ibrox verdict

Ally McCoist believes the only thing “missing” from Rangers 3-0 victory over Celtic on Thursday was that away fans weren’t in the crowd at Ibrox.

Rangers left their home ground with all three points to their name after they beat the Bhoys in the Old Firm derby on 2 January.

While there’s still an 11-point gap between themselves and the league leaders, the impressive victory at least restored a little pride and alleviated the pressure on Philippe Clement’s shoulders a little.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (3 January, 08:36am), Rangers legend McCoist shared his thoughts on the game.

“I’ll tell you one thing again that was missing, away fans man,” he said.

“Honest to god, we spoke about it before, the atmosphere at Hampden Park for the cup game was amazing, they need to get the fans back into the stadium”.

Rangers and Celtic need to allow away fans back into the Old Firm Derby

Although Rangers were no doubt spurred on by the fact that Ibrox was full of their fans, it still feels like away fans need to be allowed back into the game to create the electric atmosphere that makes the Old Firm so special.

Football has always been about rivalries and one team doing better than the other but when a stadium is full of fans going against you, it just creates something so truly special.

In fact, that has actually already been shown this season as, during the first Old Firm derby of the campaign, the Bhoys triumphed over Rangers 3-0 thanks to the sheer amount of support from Celtic Park.

The Scottish League Cup final last month was arguably one of the most entertaining derbies in recent memory for both sides as the game went the distance and was decided by penalties.

Of course, Rangers didn’t leave Hampden with another trophy to add to their cabinet but they put up a more than decent fight and took the game right to its end.

Only time will tell whether away fans will be allowed back in the fixture but at the moment, it all remains up in the air.
