Graham Spiers lashes out at some Rangers fans over Philippe Clement – ‘Idiots’

Graham Spiers held nothing back when directly addressing the Rangers “idiots” after the 3-0 win against Celtic.

Philippe Clement eased the ever-growing pressure on his future at Ibrox on Thursday (2 January) as the Gers ran out comfortable winners against Celtic in the Old Firm derby win of the season for the Belgian.

However, Scottish Times journalist Spiers took to X after the result (2 January) in a long-winded rant and urged the Light Blues “idiots” to keep faith with the Rangers boss.

Writing: “Every so often in Glasgow – such as today – Clement shows why his CV looked very convincing prior to his arrival in Glasgow in October 2023.

“A large swathe of idiots want him removed as Rangers manager.

“These people can scarcely remember what their opinion was a month ago.

“Rangers should stick by Clement.”

Philippe Clement saves his Rangers future for the time being

The Gers “idiots” were out in full force at Ibrox on Thursday, as a coin was thrown at Celtic midfielder Arne Engels in the final stages of the match, with the result all but set in stone.

Although the result will undoubtedly bring overwhelming relief after what happened in the Scottish League Cup final on 15 December, it is never acceptable to stoop so low.

Regardless, Clement has sent a serious statement of intent to the Rangers board, despite the 11-point gap to Celtic at the top of the SPFL, and he can build a side capable of going toe-to-toe with the league leaders.

However, he is not out of the woods in Glasgow just yet – to produce such a dominant performance after dropping points against St Mirren and Motherwell raises more questions than answers.

Clement now has a foundation to build upon heading into the business end of the season, but domestically, his hopes of a successful campaign remain slim.
