Ally McCoist slams ‘Madness’ Rangers incident v Celtic, expects Ibrox ban
Ally McCoist has slammed the individual guilty of striking Celtic man Arne Engels with a coin during the 3-0 Old Firm win for Rangers at Ibrox on Thursday.
Gers legend McCoist, speaking live on talkSPORT with Alan Brazil about the resounding win (3 January, 08:40), described the tarnishing incident as “madness”, adding the presence of cameras will ensure the guilty party is caught and punished.
Engels was struck by the missile during the second half at Ibrox, with the Light Blues already leading their bitter rivals 3-0 as the derby clash was drawing to a close and Rangers legend McCoist expects a stadium ban as a result of the incident.
McCoist made his feelings clear live on air: “Absolute madness, nonsense. Stadium ban at the very least, it’s absolutely crazy, especially when there are cameras everywhere.”
“They’ll get them,” Brazil responded.
McCoist added: “You’d better believe they will.”
Rangers will act accordingly once culprit identified
Rangers will be desperate for the unsavoury act of thuggery not to mar the celebrations of the day on which they were rampant against a Celtic side who have dominated Scotland for years.
As a result, the club will be sure to act accordingly in identifying and serving a lengthy ban to the individual concerned.
The incident saw the contest halted for several minutes to be dealt with, as measures are already in place from the two Glasgow rivals themselves to prevent away fans from entering the derbies.

That is a separate debate in itself, but moments such as these and the crowd trouble at the Scottish League Cup final at Hampden Park on 15 December will do little to progress matters.
While the police and the safety team at Ibrox work through footage of the incident, Philippe Clement and his side will look to build on the potential catalyst victory at Hibernian on Sunday (5 January).
