Alan Brazil reacts to Rangers wind-up live on talkSPORT – ‘Numpties’
Alan Brazil has reacted live on air to the fallout from Rangers hammering Celtic in Thursday’s Old Firm derby at Ibrox.
The breakfast co-host, live on talkSPORT (3 January, 06:04), admitted the visitors “never turned up” against Philippe Clement’s men, who roared to a 3-0 win at Ibrox for a long-awaited blue day in Glasgow.
talkSPORT started the breakfast show by playing Rangers anthem “Simply The Best” and a prickly Brazil – a noted Celtic supporter – was quick to point out the 11-point gap that still separates leaders Celtic from the Gers.
“Yeah, alright, alright. It’s cold out there in Govan, it’s minus 11 isn’t it? Mine 11 now. You numpties,” he said.
“I watched the second half, Rangers battered Celtic. Celtic never turned up.”
Rangers prove some mettle exists in Clement’s squad
If Rangers and Celtic were both at their best on Thursday afternoon, anyone of a Gers persuasion would acknowledge it would have been difficult to come out on top.
However, credit must go to Clement’s men who were superior from start to finish, especially in the second half. That worry that Brendan Rodgers’ team would inspire a turnaround slowly began to diminish as the second 45 went on.
Clement’s team selection was spot on. The Belgian contended with absences in the squad well, and appeared to learn from rotating his team too much in one hit against Motherwell last time out (29 December).

The Light Blues needed a derby win like that so dearly to act as a catalyst for the year ahead. And they did so in style, making themselves known early doors when Ianis Hagi took advantage of the early pressure to put his side in front.
After Kyogo’s neat control and finish was ruled out for offside, the would-be equaliser was about the closest Celtic would get to anything from the game. Rodgers’ docile reaction to the goal being chalked off indicated he still expected chances to turn proceedings around – but Rangers ensured it never came and glossed off the win in style through Robin Propper and Danilo’s strikes.
In other Rangers news, a reunion with a former winger is on the cards at Ibrox.
