Rangers v Celtic: Graham Spiers destroys embarrassing Ibrox scenes
Graham Spiers has called Rangers fans embarrassing after their antics in the victory over Celtic at Ibrox on Thursday.
The sportswriter posted on X following the Light Blues’ 3-0 victory on 2 January, commending the hosts for their “brilliant” display but taking aim at the behaviour of supporters in the stands.
With the Gers already 3-0 up and heading for a comfortable victory, Celtic midfielder Arne Engels was struck by a coin from the crowd in an incident which led to the game being stopped for several minutes.
Spiers said: “That was a brilliant Rangers performance. A totally deserved 3-0 win over Celtic.
“Does this put the tin lid on the “Clement is a magician… No, wait…Clement has to go” brigade?
“Off the field, in the stands, Rangers’ fans bigotry was at full pitch. A thorough embarrassment.”

On the pitch, not much more could have gone right for the Gers as they took the lead after just seven minutes through Ianis Hagi, and then never looked back in a dominant display against their arch-rivals.
Off it though, supporters’ behaviour in the stands certainly left a lot to be desired, and certainly won’t have done much to help the cause of those who want to see away fans at Old Firm fixtures again.

Engels was unhurt and able to continue for the final few minutes of the match, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that objects being launched from the crowd is completely unacceptable behaviour.
After putting in their best performance of the season, and arguably Philippe Clement’s entire tenure at Ibrox, the Bears’ triumph will now be dampened by an inevitable punishment from the SFA.
Legends of both Glasgow giants have called for away fans to return and add further atmosphere and gravitas to this famous fixture, but Thursday’s events may have rendered those hopes obsolete.
In other Rangers news, one young starlet set to exit Ibrox this summer could have Premiership clubs queuing up to sign him.
