Rangers v Celtic: Don Robertson caught in ‘Crazy’ incident at Ibrox

Don Robertson allowed play to continue despite three Rangers players having stopped for a drink against Celtic on Thursday.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound (2 January, 4:40pm), Pat Bonner spotted three Gers players out of the game as referee Robertson signalled play on, with the hosts well on their way to a 3-0 victory at Ibrox.

The Light Blues were already two goals to the good before Robertson allowed Celtic to come away with the ball with an 11-to-eight advantage, but it didn’t make much difference as Danilo soon made it 3-0.

“That was crazy”, Bonner said.

“There were three Rangers players out there getting drinks while Don Robertson let the game continue.”

Rangers hit by crazy Don Robertson moment

It’s rare that the Ibrox faithful have seen their team so fired up for a match this season – let alone one against their arch-rivals who began the game 14 points clear at the top of the Premiership table.

However, so dominant were the Bears in their first game of the new year, that had those three players been taken out for the rest of the match, you’d still have backed the hosts to see out the win.

Ianis Hagi’s early opener set the tone for a first half which was soon one-way traffic towards the Hoops’ goal, and Celtic couldn’t stem the flow of Gers attacks in a second period which left Ibrox rocking.

Taking three Light Blues out of the equation – albeit only for a brief moment – didn’t even end up playing into Celtic’s hands, with Danilo scoring barely 60 seconds after coming off the bench.

The subject of who would referee a huge Old Firm contest was a big talking point pre-match, but the Gers will only see the positives despite an odd moment of playing the advantage from Robertson.

In other Rangers news, one young starlet set to exit Ibrox this summer could have Premiership clubs queuing up to sign him.
