Brendan Rodgers spotted asking for Celtic answers from Rangers fans at Ibrox

Brendan Rodgers was looking at Rangers fans for answers as his Celtic side were thumped 3-0 at Ibrox on Thursday, Liam McLeod said.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound (2 January, 3:48pm), McLeod noticed Rodgers holding his arms outstretched with Celtic 1-0 down thanks to Ianis Hagi’s early strike at Ibrox.

Rodgers had the chance to beat the Light Blues for a record-equalling 17th time as Celtic boss, but he was left in shock as Philippe Clement masterminded an easy win.

“Brendan Rodgers with his arms outstretched looking up at the Rangers supporters behind him,” the commentator said.

“Looking for answers, I’m not sure they’re going to provide him with any answers to how poorly his team is playing this afternoon, though, it’s the wrong audience.”

Brendan Rodgers left reeling during Rangers victory v Celtic

Rodgers came into Thursday’s match at Ibrox riding the crest of the wave, with his Celtic side sitting an astonishing 14 points clear of the Bears at the top of the Premiership table.

Conversely, Clement was on the brink of the sack in Govan following a disastrous pair of results during the Christmas period, losing serious ground with defeat at St. Mirren and a draw at Motherwell.

As a result, and with a makeshift defence due to James Tavernier and Jack Butland’s absences, the hosts flying out of the blocks took Celtic and Rodgers by surprise as the Ibrox crowd rose in support.

Gers fans have seldom had opportunities to take aim at Rodgers in many of the Old Firm clashes the Northern Irishman has taken charge of, but they relished the chance on this occasion.

The Light Blues seeing out their victory in the second half could prove to be a seismic day in terms of this season’s title race, and it remains to be seen how Rodgers responds to this huge three-goal blow.

In other Rangers news, Gabby Agbonlahor lamented the continued decision on away fans for Old Firm match-ups in Glasgow.
