Rangers transfers: New January 1 update drops on signings at Ibrox
Rangers have to face the harsh reality that big-money signings are highly unlikely at Ibrox in the January transfer window, Dan Plumley has said.
It has been said that the Bears may need to sell before buying players, with loan additions more likely between now and 3 February (Rangers Review).
The football finance expert admitted that although not popular, there is a harsh reality facing Rangers heading into this window.
“Rangers fans might not like to hear that,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“There is the financial side of it and there is also the on-pitch angle of where they are right now.
“You have then got to look at, do you need to get players out before you get them in or move to the loan market because the cash is not there to splash?
“I think that is contexted by they are well off the pace of where they are expected to be and that then leads us to conversations about what happens this season is going to dictate the finances for next season as well.

“We’ve talked about the importance of Champions League qualification or at least hitting those qualifying rounds and that then impacts the January transfer strategy and sometimes you have to go back and amend that accordingly.
“I think that is the reality of it and if you are going to dip into that loan market, that’s one option or you may look to move players on to bring them in.”

Nils Koppen has been pushed into his new technical director role at Ibrox, and now it is time for him to prove his worth with some solid work in January.
New defenders are desperately needed with injuries ravaging the squad, but more attacking flair is also needed in the final third.
The doors at Auchenhowie need to be busy between now and 3 February.
In other Rangers news, one Manchester United star has been suggested as a new signing already at Ibrox.
