Jack Butland: Sky Sports host shares major development live on air

Jack Butland has now been released from hospital after the Rangers ‘keeper suffered an internal bleed.

The ‘keeper is set to miss the Old Firm Derby on 2 January and backup ‘keeper Liam Kelly is the man who will fill the void left by the Englishman.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News (1 December, 16:03pm), Sky journalist Julian Warren shared a fresh update on the condition of Butland.

“A little bit concerning about the Rangers goalkeeper, what we’re hearing is that he’s going to miss the Old Firm Game,” he said.

“He’s been in hospital and it’s understood that he has suffered an internal bleed, he has been released which is good news but the vice captain won’t be in the Old Firm Game.

“He is said to be absolutely devastated understandably as he can’t play against their big city rivals and it means that summer signing Liam Kelly who made his debut against Dundee is set to start in goal”.

Rangers need a miracle against Rangers after Jack Butland news

Although the Gers’ chances to beat Celtic on Thursday were already slim, it feels like they’ve now more than halved now that Butland has been ruled out.

The Englishman has been in mostly impressive form for the Ibrox outfit this season and has more than made the Gers’ goalkeeping spot his own.

At the moment, Rangers find themselves 14 points adrift of first-placed Celtic and will have no doubt been hoping to take that total down to 11 in the upcoming Old Firm Derby.

However, that evidently wasn’t meant to be and now Philippe Clement’s men may need a miracle to even scrape a point from the game.

Of course, Kelly is a more than decent replacement but going into one of their most important games of the season so far, Clement would have likely wanted the former Stoke City ‘keeper between the sticks in order to ensure they had the best chance of coming away with a result.

In other Rangers news, the club have agreed another off-field appointment with a four-month wait until they take charge at Ibrox.
