Tom English baffled by SFA announcement for Rangers v Celtic

Tom English has issued a sarcastic response to the Scottish FA’s latest announcement for Rangers clash with Celtic on Thursday.

The Gers welcome their arch-rivals to Ibrox on 2 January for the first time since the controversial Premier Sports Cup final, with Don Robertson confirmed to be in charge.

The Light Blues were denied a blatant penalty in extra-time before losing in a penalty shoot-out and there was been a lot of speculation about who would referee the upcoming contest after that drama.

After the appointment of Robertson was revealed, English took to X [30 December] and said: “Don Robertson…

“The well-known pro-Celtic, anti-Rangers, pro-Rangers, anti-Celtic whistler. Surely not…”

Rangers need to get over it

Football matches are not usually won and lost with a referee’s decision, but it was hard to look past this error after the horror show that followed.

The Gers did have chances to put the game to bed before that though, and it was their errors that allowed Celtic back into it.

Officials make mistakes, they are not biased against one team or the other and the VAR referees responsible for the controversy were punished, so it’s time to move on.

The Light Blues desperately need a victory if Philippe Clement is to keep his job in the Ibrox dugout.

If all their pre-match focus is on the match officials then they will not get the positive result that the Belgian needs to avoid being handed his marching orders.

If he fails to achieve a maiden victory over Celtic in his seventh attempt, it is unlikely that the former Monaco boss will be in charge for much longer.

In other Rangers news, a journalist thinks that Clement may as well have handed his resignation in after his team selection against Motherwell.
