Rangers agree to hire former Scottish FA chief in new appointment

Rangers will appoint Greig Mailer as their new head of communications once he completes a notice period with Brentford, according to Chris Jack.

The Rangers Review journalist posted on X (30 December) to report that ex-Scottish FA and Manchester United chief Mailer will link up with the Light Blues in April once his time in West London is completed.

Mailer has already agreed on a move to Ibrox and is currently working through his notice at the Premier League side, before heading up the communications and public relations department in Govan.

Rangers continue to strengthen off-field at Ibrox

Much has been made of the Bears’ haplessness on and off the pitch so far this season, which began with them playing their home games away from Ibrox, but the Gers finally look to be re-railing themselves.

Patrick Stewart’s appointment as chief executive – just seven months on from previous CEO James Bisgrove’s departure – has facilitated further arrivals at Ibrox, with Mailer the latest cab off the rank.

Although Mailer won’t be reuniting with former Manchester United colleague Stewart until April, his appointment as head of communications is a sign that the period of neglect is over.

Philippe Clement’s side are certainly failing to do their talking on the pitch of late following two woeful results on the road over the festive period, but their off-field public relations could be set for a step up.

Compared to the start of this season, Mailer could be walking into an entirely different club come next April, and one of his first tasks could well include handling the fallout of Clement’s potential sacking.

In other Rangers news, one out-of-contract Ibrox youngster could be a target for several Premiership clubs next summer.
