David Edgar rips into Rangers star after what happened in draw v Motherwell
David Edgar highlighted Jack Butland’s shocking performance as Rangers pulled back a draw against Motherwell on Sunday.
The 31-year-old shot-stopper has faced a lot of criticism lately, especially after he gifted St Mirren a penalty in their last defeat, and that form seems to have continued.
Apostolos Stamatelopoulos was able to fire under the goalkeeper for the opening goal, and while he could little about the second goal, many will feel he was lucky not to concede more at Fir Park on 29 December.
Taking to X [29 December], Edgar wrote: “Butland is absolutely miles off it.”
Jack Butland hits rough patch at Rangers
Butland has often been a saviour for the Light Blues since arriving on a free transfer in June 2023, but after the last few results, that has been totally forgotten at Ibrox.
The shot-stopper massively messed up during the 2-1 loss to St Mirren last time out, which likely saw his confidence plummet to an all-time low, at least that is what it looked like at Fir Park.
Whether it was passing out from the back, making a simple save, or claiming a cross in the air, he looked on edge and devoid of all confidence as the Gers struggled for a point against the Steelmen.
With so much pressure now on Philippe Clement and the entire squad, there is no room for anyone to hide when making the slightest of errors, even if they have had so many incredible moments at Ibrox.
Of course, a goalkeeper is always going to be highlighted when making a mistake because they are often punished with goals, but if nothing changes soon, the gloves could be given to Liam Kelly.
In fact, if nothing changes at Ibrox soon, Clement might not be in charge long enough to make a decision between the sticks.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement has been told that Connor Barron is not Rangers-ready after what he’s done at Ibrox.
