Sky commentator hushed into silence live on air during Rangers draw v Motherwell
Neil McCann was jokingly told to keep quiet by co-commentator Ian Crocker as Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell joined them in the stands during the 2-2 draw against Rangers.
The Gers went into the half-time break trailing by two goals on Sunday (29 December), but Hamza Igamane secured a point at Fir Park.
Igamane scored twice for the Gers on Sunday (29 December) after Apostolos Stamatelopoulos’ controversial opening goal, and Tawanda Maswanhise’s strike gave Motherwell a two-goal lead heading into half-time.
However, Motherwell boss Kettlewell received his marching orders in the 56th minute after a disagreement with the referee and found a seat next to the commentary box live on Sky Sports Football (29 December, 4:46pm).
McCann said: “My God, now Stuart, he’s about three yards away from me here Ian, I don’t know what’s happening.”
Crocker joked: “I wouldn’t say much after his red card.”
Rangers v Motherwell sees tempers flare
Kettlewell will not be the only one to lose his temper at Fir Park as Rangers fail to win again in the Scottish Premiership and watch Celtic pull further ahead at the top.
While Igamane heroically salvaged a share of the spoils for the visitors, another draw is simply not good enough to ease the growing pressure on Clement.
Stamatelopoulos’ goal in the 16th-minute set the tone of how the contest would play out for the visitors as another goal conceded is tainted with VAR controversy.
Former Premier League referee Mike Dean backed the decision for the goal to be awarded at Fir Park, whereas another former match official, Keith Hackett is adamant play should have been stopped for handball.
Regardless, it was a soft goal for Rangers to concede as Robin Propper failed to deal with the danger and repeated his woeful efforts in the build-up to the second goal.
Kettlewell had little to complain about on the day and certainly nothing to warrant kicking up enough of a fuss to be sent to the stands, but he will undoubtedly feel like his Motherwell side missed a golden opportunity to claim a major scalp in the SPFL.
Clement, on the other hand, only time will tell how this latest setback will affect his future at Ibrox.
