Rangers sports scientists ‘running the club’ in shock accusation
Kris Boyd believes sports scientists are “running the club” at Rangers after what happened during the 2-2 draw against Motherwell.
The Gers rotated heavily for the clash at Fir Park on Sunday (29 December) and found themselves one goal behind after 16 minutes when Apostolos Stamatelopoulos opened the scoring in the most contentious of circumstances.
However, Boyd held nothing back live on Sky Sports Football (29 December, 3:57pm) and predicted Clement to revert to old tricks to salvage the game in a damning verdict on the behind-the-scenes issues troubling the Gers.
He said: “He talked about the players being rested – Cerny, Igamane, Bajrami are the first players he’ll go to.
“Sports scientists will ask questions again, which if so you have an issue. They’re running the whole club, and right now it’s absolutely rudderless. That first half was embarrassing.”
Philippe Clement is too reliant on the same players at Rangers
Boyd can read Clement like a book.
Almost like clockwork, Rangers emerged onto the pitch for the second half, with Cyriel Dessers and Kieran Dowell making way for Vaclav Cerny and Hamza Igamane.
The Belgian’s decision to exact the half-time double change proved right as Igamane scored a brace off the bench at Fir Park spared his manager’s blushes.
Boyd predicting Clement’s substitution to perfection represents the grim reality at Ibrox heading into the January transfer window – the lack of depth in the squad is damaging.
Dessers continued his barren run in front of goal and ultimately paid the price for another lacklustre display in what could be his final outing for Rangers with Clement eager to bolster his forward line.

The Gers boss should also focus on strengthening his backline – Propper played his hand in both of Motherwell’s goals on Sunday, and there was no coordination among the defensive setup.
However, Clement may not be allowed to change his fortunes in the New Year as he fails to win in consecutive Scottish Premiership fixtures – his time at Ibrox could very well be over.
