Rangers set for another SFA investigation after events at Motherwell

Rangers could be at the centre of another SFA investigation after what happened in the 2-2 draw against Motherwell, according to Peter Martin.

The Gers lined up for the clash at Fir Park on Sunday (29 December) eager to return to winning ways after the 2-1 loss against St Mirren last weekend.

However, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos gave Motherwell the lead after 16 minutes, but the replays showed Robin Propper’s header struck the forward’s hand in the build-up.

PLZ Soccer reporter Martin believes another investigation could ensue after what happened in the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic.

He said: “I sense there might be another investigation on the way!”

SFA could cost Philippe Clement his job at Rangers

Clement has been hanging on by a thread at Ibrox all season, and he could now finally see the rope cut.

The Light Blues have lost further ground to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and if there was any slim hope of a revival in the second half of the campaign, it is time to give up.

Tawanda Maswanhise delivered the final blow in the 35th minute at Fir Park after more woeful defending from Rangers allowed the forward to collect a loose ball and fire past Jack Butland.

Pulling two goals back did not even slightly paper over the cracks. Let’s be fair.

However, the attention will turn to the contentious circumstances leading to the first goal and how the VAR officials decided not to intervene after the blatant handball.

Alan Muir and Frank O’Connor were relieved of their officiating duties in the SPFL after Vaclav Cerny was denied a penalty in the League Cup final, and the Gers’ faithful will undoubtedly demand similar repercussions.

Stamatelopoulos’ hand was tucked into his body when the ball made contact but the deflection led directly to Motherwell’s opening goal – whether or not play should have been stopped will be up for interpretation.

Regardless, Hamza Igamane single-handedly secured a share of the spoils with his second-half brace but that will matter little to Clement, who could be on the way out the door at Ibrox after failing to win again.
