Rangers and Celtic ready pre-contract for Brownhill amid Serie A development
Rangers and Celtic are ready to offer Burnley star Josh Brownhill a pre-contract deal ahead of the January window, according to TBR Football.
The online source reported [29 December] that, with the 29-year-old about the head into the final six months of his contract, Fiorentina and Lazio have already offered the player a contract.
While clubs outside of England are allowed to strike a pre-contract agreement for the star with 12 goals and assists this season, those such as Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham will have to wait until the summer.
It is also understood that Brentford, Leeds United, Bologna, Udinese, Trabzonspor and Besiktas are all keeping an eye on the midfielder’s current situation at Turf Moor.
Rangers to strike pre-contract agreement for Josh Brownhill?
Signing Brownhill on a free transfer would certainly send a message to the rest of the league as Patrick Stewart attempts to rebuild the current mess at Ibrox.
The Gers’ player trading model is one of the many issues behind the scenes in Glasgow, seeing the Light Blues falling further and further behind their Old Firm rivals Celtic.
While Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen need to be doing everything to secure a new centre-back signing, they should not pass up the opportunity to pre-sign one of the most in-form Championship players right now.
He already has over 10 goal involvements in the division, just three behind his total for the 2022/23 campaign. The midfielder still impressed in the Premier League last term as the Clarets were relegated.

A shift from English football to the Scottish Premiership seems like an unlikely change given the other teams interested, which is exactly why the Gers would be making quite a statement if they pulled it off.
With such a tight budget at Ibrox, being able to get such a talented player on a free transfer would be brilliant business from the new leadership team in the boardroom.
