Derek Ferguson was enraged by the Rangers defence after what they did ahead of Motherwell's disallowed goal in the second-half.

The Gers got away with one after their opponents were disallowed a second goal in the 65th minute of the game between the two sides on Sunday (29 December), which finished 2-2.

It was another poor moment on an afternoon where Philippe Clement's side struggled to get to the levels their supporters would have hoped for.

Ferguson held nothing back in his analysis of the defence after the goal went in as he said live on BBC Radio Scotland (29 December 4:27pm): "It's quite incredible because the Rangers defence just stand still, you know.

"Initially, it's a good save, comes off the bar. Where's the defending? Who reacts the quickest? It's Motherwell. It's Tony Watt.

"It's incredible you know. The standard of player that, supposedly that Rangers have at their disposal, that defending was diabolical to say the least."

Rangers miles off it against Motherwell

Philippe Clement certainly confused many on Sunday as he named seven changes in his side to take on Motherwell despite still being under plenty of pressure at Ibrox with concerns surrounding his future.

It was a risk that didn't pay off, with too many players off it for the Gers, and although they stepped it up in the second half with some changes in the side, it was too easy for the home side on the afternoon.

Clement's side got lucky with Motherwell having two goals disallowed in the game thanks to VAR, otherwise they would have been on the wrong end of a very poor scoreline on the afternoon instead of the 2-2 result and point they came away with.

As Ferguson said, the defensive performance throughout the afternoon was not up to scratch and with players looking like they were lost on the pitch, it certainly suggests that the problems at Ibrox continue off the pitch as well as on it.
