Alex Lowry exit: Rangers talent to be picked up by Scottish Premiership rivals
Rangers youngster Alex Lowry could be a target for fellow Premiership sides as his Ibrox contract heads towards expiry, according to the Scottish Sun.
The Sun reported on 29 December that with Lowry and fellow Ibrox academy product Adam Devine out of contract at the end of the season, both could be picked up by Premiership clubs on free transfers.
Lowry and Devine are yet to make a first-team appearance between them so far this season as offers of new deals look unlikely, with another youngster, Cole McKinnon, in the same boat at Auchenhowie.
Out-of-contract veterans Tom Lawrence and Leon Balogun are also yet to be tabled with offers of new deal by the Bears’ hierarchy, despite having featured regularly for Philippe Clement’s side this term.
Rangers youngster Alex Lowry can re-ignite career away from Ibrox
There’s no doubt that while Lowry, as well as Devine and McKinnon, have the talent and potential to play regularly at Premiership level, the standards and expectations at Ibrox are different to most other clubs.
The demand to win every single game makes every single player in every position on the pitch – and in the wider squad – absolutely vital, thus it’s no surprise that Lowry has been pushed to the periphery.

Lowry remains far behind in Clement’s pecking order of attacking midfielders, and has been left even further out of contention by Ianis Hagi’s return to the first-team fold following a contractual dispute.
While Hagi’s contract issues have been resolved since the start of the season, Mohamed Diomande and Nedim Bajrami’s presence as number 10’s leaves Lowry with next to no chance of making an impact.
McKinnon and Devine are also well down the pecking order at Ibrox, with the duo and Lowry’s next appearances in Govan looking likely to be when they’re on the books of opposition teams next season.
