Philippe Clement told what must happen to avoid Rangers sack

Derek Ferguson insists it is purely on Philippe Clement to find a solution to his Rangers problems after falling to defeat at St Mirren.

The Gers’ recent upturn in form in the Scottish Premiership came to a halt with a 2-1 loss in Paisley on Thursday (26 December).

Clement had relieved some of the growing pressure on his shoulders, but the same doubts arose in what was a poor performance against St Mirren.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Ferguson said: “A lot of teams are setting up to frustrate Rangers, asking them to break them down, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

If you look at the finances Rangers have compared to most other Scottish sides, the opposition are quite right to set up like that.

If you go toe-to-toe with Rangers and you’re Dundee United, say, you’ll often come out second best. So it’s about setting up to frustrate Rangers.

Rangers basically haven’t been good enough in the final third to find a response to that. There’s not been enough guile, enough flair, pace, power.

In Europe they’re finding a way, so it is down to the manager to find a way domestically. Whether it’s formation, structure of the side, he needs to find a way.”

Philippe Clement has nobody else to blame for Rangers sack

There has been a sense that Clement has been living on borrowed time at Ibrox for a while now.

However, since the frustrating 1-1 home draw with Dundee United a little over a month ago, the Gers have defeated St Johnstone, Kilmarnock, Ross County and Dundee.

Even in some of those victories the Bears looked underwhelming, though, and the loss to St Mirren has put everything back in focus.

Twelve points adrift of leaders Celtic before the New Year, and with arguably not a single player improving since last season, it has been a horrible campaign thus far.

Clement remains in a job for now, but you have to wonder whether defeat to Celtic next week could change that.
