Kris Boyd explodes at ‘Disgrace’ he has seen at Rangers

Rangers have been a “disgrace” on the road after suffering their fourth away loss of the season at St. Mirren on Boxing Day, according to Kris Boyd.

Speaking to Scottish Sun Sport (27 December), Boyd slammed the Gers’ record away from Ibrox after they stumbled to a 2-1 loss at St. Mirren Park, falling 12 points behind Celtic in the Premiership title race.

Philippe Clement’s side have now picked up just 10 points from a possible 24 on the road this term, with Boyd bemoaning a lack of potency in attack which is continually costing them.

He said: “(Clement’s) under pressure, there’s no doubt about it. I think Rangers’ away form has been a disgrace to be honest, when you look at it.

“10 points from a possible 24 away from home, you’ve scored seven goals and conceded eight – so Rangers are (on) a minus goal difference away from home so far this season.

“You’ve lost four out of eight away from home, and we’re not even at the new year – it’s not good enough. Away from home, you wouldn’t bet on them with stolen money to win a game.”

Philippe Clement must address away form to survive at Rangers

The Light Blues headed to Paisley with a spring in their step having not lost a match in normal time since 30 October and picking up impressive results against Nice, Kilmarnock and Tottenham along the way.

That momentum, however, shuddered to a halt in an error-strewn display at St. Mirren Park, with Jack Butland and Dujon Sterling’s moments to forget directly leading to both of the hosts’ goals.

Therefore, while the Bears have dropped just two league points at Ibrox all season – in a 1-1 draw with Dundee United in November – their away form leaves a lot to be desired with tough tests ahead.

Celtic pitch up in Govan on 2 January having extended their lead at the summit to 12 points, and with Clement’s side having another tricky away trip to Motherwell before then, the pressure is ramping up.

Motherwell were put to the sword by Celtic, losing 4-0 on Boxing Day, but if they can get any form of result against the Gers at Fir Park, the new year’s Old Firm clash could prove to be Clement’s curtain call.
