Ianis Hagi to marry Patrick Vieira needs with Rangers transfer on cards
Ianis Hagi could become Genoa’s primary target in January with the Rangers playmaker seen as an ideal fit for Patrick Vieira, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper reported in its print edition [27 December, pg 22] that after Romanian businessman Dan Sucu became Genoa’s majority shareholder with a 77 per cent stake, the Serie A side could fund a move for his compatriot Hagi.
Hagi, who has made nine Gers appearances since returning to the first-team fold, has a tactical profile that could “marry” Vieira’s setup at Genoa, given that he’s capable of playing across the midfield.
Ianis Hagi January exit on the cards at Rangers
For all the praise that has been sent Hagi’s way since coming back into the side following a contract stand-off at Ibrox, the 26-year-old’s long-term future in Light Blue is still far from decided.
A January transfer looked inevitable before Philippe Clement reneged on his previous stance regarding Hagi, but with Gers arguably well-stocked in his position, he could still make a move.

Hagi has still been given regular game-time in Romania‘s national setup despite his lack of first-team minutes at Ibrox, with many a journalist from his homeland urging the playmaker to force his way out.
Unlike Todd Cantwell, Hagi has been hesitant to do that, but the chance to be the headline signing for potentially the first Romanian-owned club in Europe’s top five leagues may be too good to pass up.
Changes will certainly be afoot at Ibrox next month – potentially even in the dugout too – but with a sell-to-buy policy likely to be in place, it remains to be seen if the Bears would cash in on Hagi.
