Brendan Rodgers to seal Philippe Clement sack at Rangers before new manager
Philippe Clement could be sacked at Rangers after the Celtic clash at Ibrox, Chris Sutton says.
The former Hoops striker believes the Belgian manager is “closer to the cliff edge” after the defeat to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on Boxing Day.
Ahead of the Old Firm derby on 2 January, Sutton thinks Brendan Rodgers may put the final nail in the coffin for the Light Blues’ head coach.
In the Daily Record (28 December), the 51-year-old wrote: “Clement is just going around in circles. He’s not getting anywhere, and I can’t see that changing in the medium or long-term future. How much blame you want to apportion to him and how much to the state of the club he’s working in is down to personal choice.
“But that St Mirren defeat has, in my eyes, just edged the Belgian even closer to the cliff edge. Rodgers could be about to push him off into the abyss. Then he can begin planning for the next one who is supposedly coming for him.”
Rangers ready to sack Philippe Clement?
Clement has an abysmal record against Celtic, failing to win any of the six Old Firm derbies in all competitions.
The former AS Monaco head coach was close to getting the better of the Bhoys in the Premier Sports Cup final, but the Bears lost in the penalty shootout.
The Gers put in one of their best performances of the season at Hampden Park, and the tide seemed to be turning at Ibrox, but the loss to the Saints was damaging.
Rangers are 12 points behind the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership table, and it seems unlikely that they will be able to catch Rodgers’ team.

Going into the game at home on 2 January, the Light Blues will be playing for pride and possibly for Clement’s future.
Patrick Stewart and Fraser Thornton have a big decision to make regarding the managerial situation at the Glaswegian outfit.
The supporters looked to have given up on the 50-year-old head coach, and it remains to be seen how long the hierarchy persists with him.
In other Rangers news, Clement could be sacked within days after an unacceptable reveal.
