Philippe Clement could be sacked at Rangers in days after unacceptable reveal
Kris Boyd says Philippe Clement could be sacked by Rangers as early as next week should results go against his side.
Clement has been the subject of speculation throughout much of the season as his side have fallen far behind their arch-rivals in the top spot, having only just taken second place in the table.
Despite a decent string of results, the Gers have failed to impress on a regular basis and a 2-1 loss against St Mirren on Thursday (26 December) in the 93rd minute leaves the side 12 points behind Celtic.
Writing for The Scottish Sun [27 December], Boyd did not hold back in his analysis of the Belgian as he said: “Philippe Clement has two games to save his job as Rangers boss.
“Or he should have – if the club is still operating to the standards I grew up with.
“Clement said the Boxing Day defeat at St Mirren was ‘unacceptable.’
“He was right – but so too is Rangers being 12 points behind Celtic after 17 games.
“If that gap grows to 15, or worse, this week then it has to be the end for Clement’s reign as boss.”
Philippe Clement running out of time at Rangers
Clement has failed to get Rangers singing on a regular basis in the Scottish Premiership this season and their levels have been well below what is typically expected at Ibrox.
Despite some suggestions otherwise, it would be unbelievable to see Rangers put up any real competition for the title this term and for it to be won at Christmas, it really speaks volumes about the season Clement’s side have been having.
In their defeat at St Mirren, it seemed as though the Belgian wasn’t too sure what to do with his side in order to take the lead in the game and instead, his side conceded a goal in the final minutes of the game to lose any points they could have come away with.
Games over this period come thick and fast and Rangers have to prepare to face Motherwell on Thursday (29 December) before taking on their fiercest rivals in league action on Thursday (2 January).

These games could prove to be crucial for the Belgian. Last time out against Celtic in the League Cup final, the Gers failed to come out on top after a penalty shootout and this time, Clement’s side need to get their revenge.
A failure to impress could well spell the end of the 50-year-old’s time at Ibrox with the gap between the two sides a real show of how standards have dropped at Rangers.
If Boyd’s prediction is anything to go by, Clement could be out of a job come this time next week.
