Rangers could make double loan signing in January, sales needed
Rangers could make up to two loan signings in the upcoming January transfer window, according to Chris Jack.
On the Rangers Review (24 December), Jack admits while the Gers will pursue a new centre-back on loan next month following Neraysho Kasanwirjo’s season-ending surgery, other incomings are unlikely.
Having spent £2.7million to sign Robin Propper amid their summer rebuild [Daily Record, 31 July], Philippe Clement won’t have a big budget to bring in other new players, unless the likes of Cyriel Dessers leave Ibrox.
Jack said: “It’s probably more likely to be a loan, just because it will replace Kasanwirjo. Look at the way that Rangers went about their business in the summer – the money was put into Propper.
“If anybody’s expecting for, five, six players to come in and bolster the squad, I would be really, really surprised if Rangers do that.
“You’re looking at a centre-half on loan, and then if the likes of Matondo, Dowell, Dessers do leave, that’s a lot freed up in wages and maybe gives you the option of another loan.”
Rangers fans will be disappointed with January transfer update
The Ibrox faithful won’t be shocked to hear that Clement doesn’t have much to spend in January, having heard first-hand at 5 December’s AGM just how badly some of their summer business went.
However, with incomings – other than a centre-half to plug the gap left by Kasanwirjo and John Souttar’s injuries – set to be facilitated by outgoings, fans will be keen for several fringe players to depart.

Dessers’ fall down the pecking order – coinciding with the emergence of the in-demand Hamza Igamane – means that he is a prime candidate to leave Govan if the price is right in January.
However, the 30-year-old remains Clement’s top scorer this season despite his recent form and the Belgian will likely want to keep hold of the Gers number nine unless a solid offer comes in.
The likes of Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo seem more likely candidates to exit next month, and if that proves to be the case, fans will be hopeful that any new arrivals can bridge the current nine-point gap to Celtic.
