Rangers to sanction double loan exit before permanent Ibrox release
Rangers youngsters Adam Devine and Alex Lowry are likely to head out on loan before their Ibrox contracts expire, according to Chris Jack.
Speaking on The Rangers Review (24 December), Jack said that with both out of contract in June 2025, the duo could depart on loan in January before being released in the summer.
Referencing Robby McCrorie’s summer exit to Kilmarnock – a move which included both add-ons and a sell-on clause – Jack added that no such agreement will be the case for Devine and Lowry.
He said: “You look at the contract situation – you would imagine a loan to somewhere for the second half of the campaign and then released at the end of their deal.
“If you look at the deal that Rangers were able to do with Robby McCrorie, who still had time on his deal – he had to move on and play football. Rangers have a clause, in that if he does move on they will benefit.
“It looks like with Lowry and Devine, given the contract situation, that’s not going to be the case.”
Adam Devine and Alex Lowry cautionary tales for Rangers starlets
As two of just six players in the Gers’ first-team squad to have come through the academy ranks in Govan, Devine and Lowry’s lack of minutes may leave several youngsters fearing for their chances.
Devine hasn’t made an appearance for the first team since Clement took charge at Ibrox, with his last coming back in May 2023 and the 21-year-old looking unlikely to add to just 11 displays in Light Blue.

Hopes were even higher for Lowry – even leading up to the current campaign – but having returned early from a season-long loan move to Hearts last term, he too hasn’t been seen in the Clement era.
The pair heading back out on loan may alert several clubs in the SPFL pyramid, but the major priority for the Gers will be to get them off the books ahead of an inevitable exit once the summer rolls around.
Academy products at Auchenhowie will still dream of wearing the Light Blue jersey, but Lowry and Devine’s fates show how difficult it is to break into a team that is expected to win every single week.
In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson praised Philippe Clement for the Light Blues’ uptick in form across recent weeks.
