Keith Jackson makes new Rangers and Celtic title prediction after recent events

Rangers winning their next three games could put them firmly back in title contention in the Scottish Premiership, according to Keith Jackson.

Writing in The Daily Record’s Monday Jury (23 December), Jackson said that after the Gers beat Dundee 1-0 on Saturday and Celtic drew 0-0 at Dundee United 24 hours later, the title race could be open again.

Philippe Clement’s side are up to second place but still sit nine points behind their rivals, yet Jackson said matches against St. Mirren, Motherwell, and Celtic on 2 January, could have huge ramifications.

He said: “Let’s see how the next week or so goes.

“If Rangers go into the New Year with nine points from the next nine then we may have to reassess things going into the second half of the season.”

Rangers can roar back into Premiership title race with Celtic victory

After the Light Blues made it four wins on the trot with a cumulative scoreline of 11-0 against Dundee, there’s no reason to suggest why confidence shouldn’t be high at Ibrox going into Christmas.

The Bears’ next three games may be being played over a 10-day spell, culminating with that Old Firm clash at Ibrox on 2 January, but it gives them a chance to build some huge momentum in the process.

Celtic also face Motherwell before making the trip across Glasgow, yet if Clement’s side outscore them points-wise ahead of their new years’ meeting, the Hoops could arrive at Ibrox with a mountain to climb.

The two Glasgow rivals pushed each other all the way in the League Cup Final at Hampden Park, with Gers having chances aplenty to win it and being denied a seemingly clear penalty in extra time.

That sense of injustice will surely fuel Clement’s men once the Old Firm lock horns again on 2 January, but if the Belgian can finally get one over on Celtic, the Premiership title race could be blown wide open.
