Isaac Price to Rangers transfer update after reports from Belgium

Rangers have “no interest” in signing Standard Liege midfielder Isaac Price despite reports in Belgium, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The journalist posted on X (22 December) in response to a Gers fan, who shared they only trust him after reports linking the Northern Ireland international with a move to Ibrox [Walfoot].

Price joined Standard Liege in 2023 and has won 18 caps for Northern Ireland since making his debut the same year, but Tavolieri quashed any speculation that the 21-year-old could be heading to Govan.

He said: “No interest from Rangers for Isaac Price.

Rangers have more important issues in January transfer window

While adding a young, up-and-coming international midfielder to his ranks mid-season would undoubtedly be a boost for Philippe Clement, the Gers have several other areas to address in the squad.

The biggest of these is central defence in the wake of John Souttar’s six-week injury setback, with Neraysho Kasanwirjo’s season-ending surgery last month leaving a dearth of centre-half options [Rangers Review, 17 December].

Before any other position in his team is looked at, Clement will therefore be keen to add depth at centre-back, and unless someone like Cyriel Dessers moves on, additions in any other area would be a luxury.

The Ibrox hierarchy are yet to give the Belgian much inclination of what he’ll be allocated to spend next month [Chris Jack, 7 December], but given the Gers’ track record in the market, fans won’t expect to see a huge outlay.

Price could well be a player the club look at once the off-season and summer window come around again, but for the time being, signing him with other reinforcements needed would be a head-scratcher.
