Nedim Bajrami justifies £3.4m Rangers transfer fee as opposition concern shared

Nedim Bajrami is starting to show why Rangers paid £3.4million to sign him from Sassuolo in the summer, according to Barry Ferguson.

The pundit was been impressed by the Albania international’s impact in the advanced midfield role against Tottenham and Celtic.

He added that the 25-year-old’s willingness to run beyond the striker sets him apart from other players before hailing him as a “big player” for the Light Blues.

“The last two games, he’s starting to show the reason why Rangers paid, I think, just over £3m for him”, Ferguson said on The Go Radio Football Show (20 December).

“Looks a different player in the number 10 position, he is different, he runs beyond the main striker and if you ask any defenders, they don’t enjoy midfield runners.

“So, he’s starting now to become a big player for Rangers.”

He has grown in stature at Ibrox in recent weeks, although his numbers still suggest otherwise. He has only four goals and an assist to show for his 20 appearances across all competitions.

Bajrami’s form has coincided with Rangers hitting their stride. With players like him and Ianis Hagi finding momentum, the Gers have remained unbeaten in their last 10 games, although the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic last Sunday (15 December) ended in a penalty shootout defeat.

There is no doubt that Bajrami will be important to the Ibrox outfit’s hopes of achieving success this season as Philippe Clement and co look to close the 11-point gap with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Clement, though, will want more goals and assists from the right-footed attacker.
