Ianis Hagi exit: Rangers stance revealed after £1.6m claim by family friend
Ianis Hagi is happy at Rangers despite speculation that he wants to leave, according to the player’s father Gheorghe Hagi.
The 26-year-old was involved in a contractual dispute with the Light Blues but returned to the first-team squad in October after it was resolved. [1 October, Daily Record]
The Romanian attacking midfielder had been linked to a £1.6 million exit with German club Borussia Monchengladbach mentioned as a potential suitor by family friend Adrian Ilie [26 November, Daily Record, page 48].
However, the former Barcelona and Real Madrid legend revealed that his son is pleased with his situation with the Gers in quotes reported by the Scottish Sun [page 58, 20 December], saying: “I am going over to Scotland soon. I will go and stay with Ianis.
“I know he is very happy at the moment with the situation at Rangers. He has worked very hard because he is a boy who dedicated himself to football and football has rewarded him too.
“So I know he is very content where he is at the moment and he is in a good place.”
Hagi update is positive for Rangers
It is no coincidence that the Gers’ fortunes have improved in recent weeks as the influence of Hagi has grown in the side.
Since the Istanbul-born star returned to the starting XI in the Scottish Premiership, the Light Blues have won all three matches.
The highlight of his return came when he notched two assists in the 6-0 victory against Kilmarnock at Ibrox on 4 December.

He was not able to feature in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham in the Europa League because he was not registered for the squad.
Philippe Clement will surely correct this when he can change the squad registration once the knockout rounds begin.
Hagi is making up for lost time and impressing on his return to action in Scotland, it may only be a matter of time before he earns a big move.
