Rangers want African forward who’s tearing things up in January transfer update

Rangers have increased their interest in Mamelodi Sundowns forward Iqraam Rayners, according to SNL24.

According to the South African news outlet’s website [19 December], the Gers have been monitoring the 29-year-old since his spell at Stellenbosch and remain big fans.

The report states that Rayners is “turning heads with his performances for club and country” this season.

Philippe Clement’s side may be forced to enter the transfer market for a new focal point for the attack at Ibrox, with Everton preparing a move for Hamza Igamane [TBR Football] and Cyriel Dessers on the radar of Ligue 1 outfit Saint-Etienne [Le10sport].

Rangers could sign African forward Iqraam Rayners

While a move for a striker currently plying his trade in the South African Premiership will do little to excite the Rangers faithful, the same could have been said for Igamane before he arrived from FAR Rabat, and his form has alerted Premier League interest.

The Light Blues face the real possibility of losing the 22-year-old only six months after acquiring his services with West Ham, Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham and Newcastle United also monitoring developments and interest emerging from top European sides.

Therefore, with Dessers on the chopping block at Ibrox, a new forward is now a necessity ahead of the transfer window and Nils Koppen must adopt a creative approach given the widely-reported financial troubles in Glasgow.

Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers

Rayners has developed as a late bloomer in South Africa, scoring 12 goals in 16 outings for Sundowns after scoring 17 goals for Stellenbosch last term and earning a move to the 17-time league champions.

The South African international, who has scored four in 10 appearances for the Bafana Bafana, could provide a perfect short-term fix up top should the Light Blues lose Igamane and/or Dessers in January.
