Rangers transfer development emerges in Joe Gelhardt chase
Nils Koppen has been forced to enter the loan market as Rangers are eyeing a January swoop for Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt, according to the Daily Mail.
The news outlet reported on 19 December that the club’s tricky financial situation has meant that the technical director may have to sign the Liverpool-born striker on loan.
Despite the emergence of Hamza Igamane as a key player in recent weeks, the club are still keen on bringing in an attacker in the coming weeks.
Joe Gelhardt would be a quality addition for Rangers
While Gelhardt is not the finished product at 22, he can still add a bit of firepower to the Gers attack this season.
Not only does he have Championship experience under his belt, but he’s also played against some of the best defenders in the world in the Premier League.
His ability to work hard off the ball is something Philippe Clement would admire and hopefully, manage to get the best out of.
Cyriel Dessers is also facing an uncertain future at the club and if he is sold, signing Gelhardt becomes imperative for the club.
The Nigerian’s striker failure to step up and take a high-pressure penalty further isolated him from the fanbase and it makes sense to cash in on him in January.

Whether Gelhardt is seen as the first choice to replace him or not, remains to be seen.
In other Rangers news, the club are on course to submit a bid to sign a £2m player in the January transfer window.
