Ally McCoist in disbelief at ridiculous Rangers moment he saw v Celtic

Ally McCoist found it “ridiculous” how Celtic allowed Rangers to instantly hit back late on with an equaliser in Sunday’s Scottish League Cup final.

Danilo scored a minute after Nicolas Kuhn had put Celtic 3-2 ahead at Hampden Park on 15 December in a game that went to penalties.

Celtic went on to win on spot-kicks, although the fallout is far from over, but Alan Brazil felt Celtic lacked urgency and it was the Gers who instead looked more up for it.

In response, McCoist said on talkSPORT Breakfast [18 December, 06:08am]: “Strange, wasn’t it? It was a surprise to me.”

On Danilo’s leveller, McCoist added: “I couldn’t believe it. What was it, 50 seconds? Ridiculous.”

Rangers put up strong fight but fall short versus Celtic

Rangers put on a better show than many expected prior to the match, which was fall of talking points, and almost pulled off one of the great Old Firm results.

In some ways, the manner of the loss via penalties was even tougher to take than had the match just finished at 2-1.

Still, there are positives for Philippe Clement to take from this defeat, which ended a recent upturn in form.

As McCoist says, it was strange how Celtic backed off after going in front so late on, perhaps subconsciously believing they had done enough.

The defending at both ends of the field was bad all afternoon, not helped by the atrocious weather conditions in Glasgow.

This game is now in the past, though, and all focus is on Saturday’s (21 December) visit of Dundee to Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.

In other Rangers news, Patrick Stewart has shared his thoughts on Clement for the first time amid the recent sack talk.
