Alan Brazil cracks new Rangers joke as Ally McCoist reacts live on air

Alan Brazil couldn’t resist aiming a Rangers joke at Ally McCoist after the Scottish League Cup final defeat against Celtic.

Speaking on talkSPORT (18 December, 9:52am), the duo debated Arsenal’s chances of winning the EFL Cup, but Brazil quickly turned attention towards Gers’ loss in the Scottish equivalent on Sunday.

Brazil had refrained from making any jokes at McCoist’s expense following the Bears’ defeat on penalties to Celtic after their 3-3 draw at Hampden, but the Ibrox legend could only laugh in response.

“What do you reckon, League Cup? Everyone would take the League Cup, wouldn’t they?”, Brazil asked.

McCoist replied: “Of course they would – it’s a trophy.”

Brazil hit back: “So would Rangers, wouldn’t they?”

McCoist burst out laughing before saying: “You’ve done well – 3 hours, 52 minutes. Hey, congratulations, brilliant performance mate.”

“I had to, sorry pal. I had to”, Brazil conceded.

Rangers still reeling from League Cup Final defeat

While McCoist was able to laugh off the inevitable jibe from Brazil, many fans still won’t be over the manner of their loss at Hampden, having gone so close to beating their arch-rivals.

Philippe Clement’s side were just one saved Ridvan Yilmaz spot-kick away from retaining the League Cup, but the aftermath of their defeat has raised the possibility of the game never going to penalties.

The 3-3 draw was one hell of a spectacle but wasn’t without its controversies, with Liam Scales’ shirt-pull on Vaclav Cerny on the edge of the box seen as a foul which should have yielded a penalty.

Further incidents followed in the shootout itself, with Kasper Schmeichel likely to be hit with an SFA charge for encroaching on the penalty area as a Celtic spot-kick was being taken.

Regardless, retrospective action won’t change the agonising nature of the defeat for Light Blues fans, and as a result, the Ibrox faithful will continue to be on the end of Brazil’s barrage of jokes.
