Philippe Clement sack decision update emerges amid backroom Rangers change

Alison McConnell does not see Rangers sacking Philippe Clement despite the Scottish League Cup final loss against Celtic.

Despite the arrival of Patrick Stewart as CEO and Fraser Thornton as chairman on Monday, 16 December, the PLZ Soccer journalist is of the opinion that the Belgian will retain his job.

This is because there has been an upturn in form at the club and they took Celtic to the distance on Sunday evening.

McConnell told PLZ Soccer on 16 December at 29:22: “It’s an interesting one, isn’t it?

“When it was announced what dates they [Stewart and Thornton] would be starting the consensus was that if Rangers hadn’t won the cup final in the first half might have been to sack the manager. I don’t think that will happen.

“I think there has been a shift in recent weeks I think you’ve seen a a bit of evidence that it’s a team that’s a bit more cohesive than what it was earlier in the campaign.

“It’s a welcome move towards stability I think it’s welcome to have figures in place who can now identify the direction that the club is going to move in.”

Philippe Clement is likely to get more time at Rangers

The two backroom arrivals signify a shift towards stability at the club, which is crucial after a period of upheaval behind the scenes.

Sacking Clement now would introduce further instability, potentially disrupting the team’s focus during the transfer window, which is just two weeks away.

This period is crucial for team building and strategic planning, especially with new leadership in place to steer the club’s direction.

Clement has shown signs of improvement in team cohesion, as seen in their competitive performance against Celtic.

Allowing him time to integrate new players and implement his vision could lead to better results.

Moreover, the club would now give the Belgian the opportunity to rectify past mistakes under the new management structure before considering a change, ensuring that any decision is based on a fair assessment rather than knee-jerk reactions.

In other Rangers news, a first-team player could now be ruled out for months, potentially even needing surgery.
