Vaclav Cerny watched by clubs with more money in new Rangers transfer update

Vaclav Cerny played like he knew clubs richer than Rangers were watching in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham at Ibrox on Thursday, according to Stephen McGowan.

As he has often since arriving on loan from Wolfsburg in the summer, the 27-year-old put in an impressive shift for the Light Blues in their Europa League clash with Spurs on 12 December.

The journalist believes the Czechia international was aware that there were clubs with more money than the Gers watching on from the stands amid doubts over his long-term future in Glasgow.

Writing in the print edition of the Scottish Daily Mail [14 December, pg 86], McGowan wrote: “Vaclav Cerny played like a man who knew there were clubs with more cash than Rangers watching in the stands.”

Cerny has been one of Rangers’ best players this season, having notched nine goals and five assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.

There is no doubt that the Light Blues would be glad to make his season-long loan deal permanent, but it is unclear if they can afford it as things stand.

Earlier this month, Philippe Clement conceded that a permanent deal for the attacker is financially beyond the Glasgow giants’ reach [The Scottish Sun].

It now remains to be seen if that situation will change between now and the end of the season.

It is imperative that Rangers achieve success domestically and in Europe to have a chance of retaining Cerny’s services beyond this season.

While it is unclear if any of the clubs in attendance on Thursday have a specific interest in the left footer, he will not be short of options in the summer anyway.
