Neil Lennon blasts Igamane ‘madness’ after Rangers v Celtic first-half incident

Neil Lennon has blasted Hamza Igamane for falling to the floor in the Scottish League Cup final between Rangers and Celtic.

Jack Butland had just played a long ball to the attacker but it didn’t quite make it far enough as Alistair Johnston got onto the end of it and shielded the ball, which caused the Morocco international to fall to the floor.

Igamane has been in fine form recently but hasn’t quite managed to get up to the levels in the final that he’s shown recently, despite being picked to start once again, in the opening 45 minutes.

Speaking live on Premier Sports (15 December, 15:45pm), former Celtic boss Lennon shared his thoughts on the situation.

“It’s a great kick from [Jack] Butland though, there’s some length on that, it’s a free one for Alistair Johnson, he just shields the ball and he [Igamane] just falls to the floor, madness from Igamane,” Lennon said.

Philippe Clement needs Rangers to take things up a gear

The past few weeks have been full of ups for Rangers and Philippe Clement. They’ve managed to cut down the gap between themselves and second-placed Aberdeen and have even got a point from their Europa League clash against Tottenham, which should have been three.

Sunday’s cup final against Celtic could be a pivotal point in the season for the Belgian regarding his job role.

While the Gers’ recent form has no doubt carried him through the last few weeks, now that Patrick Stewart will be instated into his role of CEO on 16 December, he’ll likely have some big decisions to make.

And, if Clement’s men don’t come away from Hampden Park with the silverware, that could be what tips the Belgian over the edge and ends his Ibrox tenure.

But with Nedim Bajrami putting the Gers into a 1-0 lead late in the first half at Hampden Park, Clement is 45 minutes away from a monumental victory in his bid to get the Gers moving in the right direction again.
