Peter Crouch in hysterics at what happened after Rangers goal v Tottenham
Alan Hutton’s antics as Hamza Igamane scored for Rangers against Tottenham on Thursday left Peter Crouch in stitches on the gantry.
Speaking on commentary for TNT Sports (12 December), Hutton jumped up and gestured a finish of his own as Igamane tucked home James Tavernier’s cross on the half-volley in the 1-1 draw at Ibrox.
While Hutton – a right-back in his playing days – accepted that he’d rather leave the finishing to Igamane, former striker Crouch joked that the ex-Rangers man had put the goal away himself.
“Alan Hutton finishes this, I’ve got to say, Alan Hutton finished that one really well, didn’t he?”, Crouch jibed as he chuckled away.
Hutton replied: “If I’d connected, I’d have probably put it over the bar, that’s the problem Crouchy.”
Alan Hutton and Peter Crouch join in on Rangers frenzy at Ibrox
Hutton won’t have been the only person associated with Rangers who’ll have willed Igamane’s half-volley beyond Fraser Forster and into the back of the net, as the Copland Road Stand was sent into raptures.
The 40-year-old, who plied his trade at Ibrox between 2000 and 2008, almost launching himself off the TNT Sports gantry certainly wouldn’t have gone down well, but it made his passion for the club clear.
Igamane has fast-become a hero in Govan since establishing a starting place in the side, producing some superb runs down the flanks and dead-eyed finishing which Crouch would be proud of.
The former England striker’s unorthodox style was a large part of his own appeal whilst playing, and Igamane’s route to Ibrox – via Moroccan side FAR Rabat – is different to that of most players in Scotland.
Crouch’s hysterics may have masked his true feelings given how Spurs were played off the park by the Light Blues, and there’ll have been few more relieved than him when the visitors eventually equalised.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement will have had his eye on another player lining up in blue on the continent this Thursday.
