Rangers know where to exploit Tottenham after what Clive Allen said
Rangers can exploit the lack of defensive options Ange Postecoglou has at his disposal for Tottenham at Ibrox on Thursday night.
As explained by former Spurs coach Clive Allen, the visitors have numerous key defenders missing for the crucial Europa League clash, in which Philippe Clement’s men can put immense pressure on a heavily scrutinised Postecoglou.
The decorated former Celtic boss returns to Glasgow for the first time since leaving for North London in 2023, where he will expect a hostile reception from a buoyant Govan crowd.
“When the draw was made, it was considered a big game for both teams – but it’s taken on more significance now,” Allen told Gabby Agbonlahor and Alan Brazil live on talkSPORT [12 December, 07:37].
“Rangers are just one place above Spurs and having a good Europa League run. It’s a massive game in terms of where they both stand.
“Ange Postecoglou has to go as strong as he can. His problem is three defenders – Romero, Van de Ven and Davies – are all out. I think young Archie Gray will partner Dragusin at centre-half because of the lack of numbers in that position.”
Rangers must attack Tottenham while they’re down
Tottenham will arrive at Ibrox as favourites on Thursday night, but that’s far from to suggest Rangers cannot stick the boot in.
Clement’s men will get opportunities. Postecoglou knows not to win back in Glasgow will not be considered good enough by the Spurs fans, who have become exasperated with their side’s inconsistency.
Ahead of crunch clashes like this one, Gers have become accustomed to being the side to approach the game surrounded by chaos, but on this occasion the tables have turned.

Thursday’s hosts head into the game on a steady run of form which has vastly improved from early-season results, as Clement has recently opted to make his side more attack-minded.
And if they maintain this bravery against a star-studded but wounded Tottenham team, a historic result could well be on the cards. Rangers have quite frankly beaten better European opponents at Ibrox in recent seasons.
