Rangers eye £2.5m midfielder abroad as Nils Koppen ramps up transfer business

Rangers are interested in signing Marko Soldo from NK Osijek ahead of the January transfer window, according to Rangers News.

The news outlet reports [10 December] that the Gers are keeping an eye on the 21-year-old, who could cost between £1.5–£2.5million, and have watched him up close more than once.

Niles Koppen, recently promoted as the technical director, and the Light Blues’ scouting team have the Croatian youngster on their radar, having watched the midfielder more than once.

It remains to be seen how much money the Light Blues will be willing to spend, with Philippe Clement yet to speak to the hierarchy about the January window [Rangers Review, 7 December].

Rangers need reinforcements in January transfer window

The Light Blues undoubtedly need to strengthen their squad in the upcoming transfer window after the poor start to the season.

Celtic are 11 points ahead of the Bears in the Scottish Premiership table, and there is an evident gulf of quality between the two sides.

Soldo is a defensive midfielder who’s shown immense potential in Croatia, but a potential move to Glasgow will come with many challenges.

Nicolas Raskin and Connor Barron have solidified their places in the engine room at Rangers this season.

Clement has also experimented with playing with Ianis Hagi in one of the two holding midfield positions in the 6-0 win over Kilmarnock in the league, with the Romanian providing two assists.

Soldo’s price tag currently looks steep, with the Gers not in the best financial position.

The transfer business in the summer was lacklustre as the Light Blues failed to add much-needed depth to their squad, and it doesn’t look like the coming month will be any different.

In other Rangers news, Barry Ferguson has shared his disappointment regarding Hagi ahead of the Tottenham clash.
