Aberdeen slam SPFL ahead of Rangers and Connor Barron decision

Aberdeen chief executive officer Alan Burrows has slammed the SPFL as the Connor Barron tribunal drags on with Rangers.

The Dons’ CEO isn’t pleased with the length of time the SPFL has taken to decide the compensation for the midfielder, with both clubs legally bound to be silent on the matter.

Aberdeen are due a fee for their academy product from the Gers after the 22-year-old moved to Ibrox in the summer in a freedom-of-contract move.

Speaking during the Dons’ AGM on Monday [9 December], via the Daily Record, Burrows said: “This may sound like a cop-out, but the rules of the SPFL prevent us from speaking too much about it.

“But what I can tell you is that the process has been extremely elongated and has taken significant time for both management and staff.

“I am happy to go on record saying that the SPFL should have a much more succinct system to deliver this sort of thing. It should not take six-to-seven months to try and deliver that.

“We hope to have a conclusion on that fairly soon. I certainly agree that it has gone on for too long and should act as a catalyst for the league to do it better.”

Rangers should settle Connor Barron Aberdeen tribunal soon

The Gers signed one of the most promising talents in Scotland over the summer, and he has made an instant impact at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement has heavily relied on the midfielder this season as he’s started in a majority of the fixtures for the Light Blues alongside Nicolas Raskin.

The 22-year-old has been one of the best players for the Bears in the current campaign, albeit there aren’t many positive performers to choose from.

Rangers should come to a compromise with Aberdeen for Barron and focus on more critical issues.

The Light Blues have struggled in the Scottish Premiership this season and are currently 11 points behind Celtic in the league table — a basically impossible position for the Gers to get back from.

Clement has failed to bring out the best from his squad, but the Belgian seems to have found a solution in recent weeks — the emphatic victories over Kilmarnock and Ross County highlight the improvement.

The Bears have a make-or-break week, with two challenging matches ahead in Tottenham and Celtic.
